Lamborghini, the Italian car manufacturer has taken the first step into non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project - dubbed the Space Key - is a piece of art made by a collaboration with an unknown artist. The unique NFT is a tangible item that connects to exclusive digital artwork that is accessible via a QR code on the back. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off over the next few weeks.
The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part of a research project in the year 2019 was sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was created into a distinctive artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical component has an NFT serial code that ties to the digital image via QR code on the rear.
NFTs, for those who are not familiar, are unique identifiers that are recorded on an open ledger on the blockchain and connected to a digital asset such as a photograph, video, song or any other type of record. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity and the traceability of their tokens on the internet.
Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art a step further by collaborating with NFT PRO, an all-white label NFT solution for businesses. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal details about this exciting project, including the name of the unidentified artist and a timetable for the auction.
